DYB Driver Procedures

(Updated 5/14/2022)

Thank you for your interest in helping voters ensure their ballots are counted this year. The following are Drive Your Ballot procedures that will be important to understand before taking on a ride request.

Eligibility

To protect the safety of everyone involved in rides, DYB asks the following of its drivers:

  1. Demonstrate eligibility by providing proof of valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance and consenting to background checks.

  2. Sign the DYB Driver Agreement.

DYB will distribute links to each driver to sign the agreement and upload the required files. Files may also be sent to @DYB Dispatch in a DM on Slack.

How to Claim a Ride Request

@DYB Dispatch will be posting ride requests to Slack, and drivers can express interest in a request by either (1) commenting on the Slack post, or (2) direct messaging @DYB Dispatch with the request ID (e.g. RR1235)

Once You Claim a Request

Assuming you’ve completed the eligibility requirements above, @DYB Dispatch will send you the complete ride request details with voter name and contact information. Please reach out to your voter as soon as possible and confirm a pickup time. Once you do, message @DYB Dispatch with the pickup time.

When a request has been claimed, DYB will update the status of the posting on Slack with a ✅ emoji. This makes it easier for other drivers to see unclaimed requests.

Before Each Trip

Please confirm:

  • You have been practicing social distancing and have not been in a crowd within the last 14 days.

  • You are not exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, have not had a positive COVID test within the past 14 days, and have not had contact with a known COVID-positive person within the last 14 days.

  • You have a suitable face covering to wear for the duration of the ride.

REMEMBER: If you’re feeling sick at the time of your ride, please stay home!

During Each Trip

  • Wear a mask covering both your nose and mouth for the duration of the ride.

  • Ensure that your passenger is wearing a mask.

  • Transport only 1 passenger per trip.

  • Keep the conversation with your rider polite and politically neutral. Assume you could be recorded.

After Each Trip

After your round-trip — you picked up the voter, brought them to the nearest elections office, then returned them to their home — please message @DYB Dispatch to tell them you completed the trip.

How Many Rides Can You Claim?

As many, or as few, as you wish :-)
